Wait, What? Tom Latham Set to Replace Kane Williamson!

Tom Latham, a renowned top cricketer from New Zealand, might be the new captain after Kane Williamson. Recently, Kane Williamson announced that he will be taking a break; hence, this means Tom Latham will be the new team leader.

Williamson was disappointed after New Zealand didn’t perform well in the T20 World Cup and hence, he decided not to captain the team for the white-ball matches. Instead, he plans to play T20 cricket in South Africa in January.

Latham, who has been Williamson’s deputy (like a vice-captain) for a long time, has expressed his interest in captaining New Zealand’s white-ball team. He says it would be a big honor for him to take on the role and believes it’s a chance for both the team and himself to show what they can do when key players like Williamson are not around.

Although Latham has been the captain of the team before, he might not get to be the full-time captain for all types of matches. Moreover, Latham didn’t play in New Zealand’s T20 World Cup team, and it’s been over a year since he played in a T20 International match.

The upcoming series against England will be the only test cricket New Zealand plays at home this summer. Latham thinks players need to adapt to the changing ways cricket is played nowadays, especially with so many T20 leagues around the world. He believes that the way contracts are given out to players might need to change because of how cricket is changing. He thinks flexibility is good but wants to make sure it works well for everyone involved.
